It’s Day 13 of our Switzerland trip and our third day in Brienz!
We wake up and the skies are cloudy. The Niederhorn webcam shows clouds as well but faint outlines of some mountains. We are hopeful so we decide to begin the trek. We catch the train to Interlaken and the bus to Beatenbuch. The funicular takes us up to the next gondola station. We take a while to get there so we miss the first set of gondolas and need to wait. The next set arrives and now we get to wait for the station guy to load a pallet of sodas into the gondola. As we ascend in the gondola, the clouds get heavier and darker until we can only see thick white mist.
The top of the lift is still in the clouds and it is windy and chilly! We decide not to jump back on the gondola but to begin hiking. Such a good decision! After a bit, we see a tiny patch of blue sky. Then some mountain peaks in the distance! After a bit, the clouds descend and we feel the sun and see the gorgeous views! We continue hiking up to Burgfeldstand where we stop for some lunch. The birds want our lunch and are quite bold but mostly just creep up and stare at us.
After lunch, we head back to the station while admiring the views. There is a bridge out over one of the dropoffs. We find a hangglider ramp, which looks precarious. There is also an obstacle course, probably for daring kids. We then head back to Interlaken then back to the lake house.
Dinner is spaghetti with all the leftover stuff we have. So hot salami, cheese, normal salami, vegetables, ground beef, tomato sauce, paprika crackers, oranges, bread and butter, jam. Yum. Dessert was similar. Ice cream, jam, biberli cookies, lebkuchen cookies, raspberry creme donut thing, chocolate covered tartlette thing, tea biscuits.
It was a great day with great views! Now it is time to pack for the next leg of our journey.

I must say the weather sure cooperates with you folks. You have had 13 days of pretty great weather and of course spectacular views.
I spent the day yesterday watching Miriam get her 8 bottom teeth pulled. And trying to help her remember to keep the gause in her mouth and not wash her mouth out. I was observing a different canyon!
