It’s Day 8 of our Switzerland trip and our third day in Murren! It is Oma’s birthday today and she gets to pick the hike. She picks the most difficult path up the cliff from Lauterbrunnen to Murren – straight up the cliff! Some of the group needs an easy day to help their knees to heal so they will do the walk beside the train, ride to Allmenhubel, and walk around Murren.
Breakfast is again wonderful. We then get ready and head out for the train to Grutschalp and then the gondola down to Lauterbrunnen. We find our way to the path and begin the steep ascent. Well, it gets HOT and steeper. Lots of good hiking. This path sometimes runs beside the mountain bike path DOWN the cliff wall we are ascending! It looks like a well maintained path but you should only go on this if you are skilled.
After 2 hours roughly, we arrive at the top of the cliff! Now we head down the path that runs beside the train station. This is flat but longer than any of us remember. Overall we completed the hike and really enjoyed the adventure. We ate strawberry ice cream bars to celebrate.
Some of the group then headed up to watch hang gliders. Another portion if the group headed on the path to Isenfluh to see if it is a good trail for the group the next day. The trail was gorgeous and seemed reasonable!
The birthday meal was hamburgers, cheese, potatoes, and vegetables with black forest cake roll-up for dessert. All quite delicious!
Another spectacular day. These trails were not for sissys! Sharon would have made it – me – no. So enjoy following you each day.
