Georgetown – Silver Creek Trail
Free breakfast so OF COURSE we are stopping by! For a free continental breakfast, this one is very good and highly maintained. Their pancake maker was interesting. You didn’t scoop and dump pancake batter yourself; instead you just pushed a button and the magic machine started churning and whirring and then popped out 2 fresh pancakes for you. Wow. Unsurprisingly, we stuffed ourselves full of calories in case we took an unexpected long hike and needed to survive for days. Then, off for our adventure.
After the strenuous hike yesterday, we decide to save Mt Sniktau for another trip. There is a trail partway up the mountain that goes from Georgetown to Idaho Springs. This trail was built in the 1800s for $6000 as a way to transport mining stuff and other goods between the two happening towns. The trail is mostly flat but the hike up to the trail was NOT flat. Wow, after yesterday we are tired!
The views here are great also! The weather is great again. We are walking in the shade of trees most of the way. On the way back, we decide not to head down the mountainside that we hiked up to join this trail so we take the road to the town instead. We are kind of dumped out into a mountain neighborhood and get strange looks. But we just wave and head to the lake. Fly fishing seems to be a hot hobby here. LOTS of fly fishers.
We head back to Denver, hoping to miss the crazy traffic rush. We spend the evening cooking, eating, and relaxing on the deck. The cardamom berry pastries were delicious. The lemon cheesecake was interesting.
