Some points of interest we hit:

Today, the advanced group begins the journey to Tahoe. One group comes from the west and the other travels from the east. The travels to Tahoe are pleasant and not super eventful, which is good cause we didn’t want anything to delay our plans. No that’s wrong, we all had massive delays (flight delays due to weather, rental car delays due to flat tires, food break delays, shopping delays…) but fortunately all obstacles were overcome. As a side note, Full Belly Deli in Reno has very delicious sandwiches and worth a trip of you are in the area. Just look past the adult superstore next door (it’s ok the road is called Bible Way 😀 ), the junky looking strip mall, and the overwhelming smell of the pee from the parking lot (we think this parking lot is the local toilet).
Driving to Tahoe gives us some nice views. We even saw some white stuff. Is it snow?
Our condos in Tahoe are pretty nice. One of us got the smaller middle room. One of us got the nice larger corner room. Both have great views of the lake! Looks like a few of the condos in this building are empty of furniture so hopefully no neighbors there! There is one room between the two of us so we think that one might be given to another in our group tomorrow. That one is nice cause there are2 bathrooms. woo!
It is absolutely cold here. It is also raining and windy. We could join the group of youngsters in the hot tub but there isn’t much room left with al of them in there. Also it looks like part of the hot tub experience today involves periodically running from the hot tub and jumping into the lake before heading back to the hot tub. hmm.. maybe leave that challenge to the young crazies. Although, maybe this would be good for the skin? like the Finnish tradition?
After chilling and unpacking, we decide we are hungry and look for a nice place to eat. Well, lucky for us, Dan finds a well-rated restaurant right across the street. They sell spatzle so it’s a no-brainer. We can walk there. CAN, but the majority of the group vetoes that plan. After all, it is rainy, windy, and freezing. The weather is terrible, it is a Thursday, and off-season, so the parking lot is pretty empty; as is the inside of the restaurant. We are greeted by the owners and told to pick a seat. There is only one other group in there. We pick a table right next to the fireplace – which isn’t running, but we can imagine the heat. The guy serving us is very friendly and talkative. We think he is the owner. We order a LOT of food! Appetizer, main, dessert – it is all very delicious.
It’s now off to Safeway to get some logs for the fire. These logs do burn and are enjoyable to watch but they provide NO heat outside the stove in our room. Ambiance is better than heat, right?
Well, it’s been a great day and we look forward to the rest of the horde arriving tomorrow! It’s going to be a FUN ADVENTURE!
