Here are some random thoughts from the trip. This was pieced together after another site died.
We have changed our travel plans slightly. We will probably take the night train to Vienna from Munich. Stay for 3 days then go to Innsbruck for 3 days, then we will head over to Switzerland. Plans changed again and Vienna was not visited.
We are in Austria for 6 days. We want to tour Munich. It is pretty after dark. We will go to a place called marienplatz. That is a street, I think. although Strasse is street in German. We are going when we are in innsbruck which will be either next thursday or friday
It straddles germany and austria. http://www.zugspitze.de/zugspitze/index_en.php. They have a cross on the highest point that you can hike over to. I don’t think it is very far from the building. I might have to send Dad alone and I will take pics of him. In the rick steves video they are climbing up a cable ladder. Creepy for me.
Because our plane was so late getting into Munich, we never got to the hotel until midnight. Have you ever walked the streets of an unfamiliar city, where they don’t speak English, it’s dark and raining. We went the wrong way out of the train station so had to back track.
The train ride to Innsbruck was okay. Not a really pretty ride but at least we didn’t have to drive. In Innsbruck, we walked the old town. We are staying in a hotel that Mozart stayed in as a boy.
We went to the top of one of the mountains today. It was cloudy so at times you couldn’t see much. It did clear at times and the views were beautiful. We went to a bell foundry today. The bells were pretty expensive.
Tomorrow we go to another mountain on the opposite side. It is supposed to have some sun around 2:00 so we will plan on being up there then.
We are having a great time. Today was beautiful. There was a pole vaulting and long jumping competition tonight. It was in front of the golden roof (famous landmark). It was set up along the street. We watched for a while.
We are off to Switzerland tomorrow.
Time for breakfast then off to catch our train. It is a long ride today. We have at least 5 stops and it will take 7 hours total, I think. But we will be going through the Tirolian Alps and the Swiss Alps. Hopefully we will get some beautiful pics.
