Ideas in Rosenlaui, Switzerland

Rosenlaui
The Rosenlaui Valley, at the foot of the Engelhörner, Dossen, Wellhorn and the Wetterhorn, offers everything one might expect of Switzerland: rich pastures, great old maple trees, age-old stables and mountain huts, rough rocks and sparkling glaciers.

Arrive by train in Meirengen, then hop on a bus headed to Hotel Rosenlaui. Beware, the roads are extremely curvy and narrow! These bus drivers have amazing driving skills and use a musical horn to warn oncoming traffic around the sharpest curves. The views from the bus windows are gorgeous, so be sure to have your camera ready! Get off at the stop for Hotel Rosenlaui and proceed to check-in.

Andreas and Christine, the owners of this hotel, are very friendly and personable. Andreas is also an incredible chef! The hotel provides a large buffet breakfast and a spectacular four-course meal in the evenings. The hotel rooms are simple but comfortable. On each floor there are two shared restrooms. This is a great base to explore the surrounding area.

Numerous hiking trails exist around Rosenlaui. From the hotel front door, you can hike down the mountain trail or up the trail. You can take a bus up to Schwarzwaldalp and hike around there or continue up the mountain on another bus to Grosse Scheidegg. From there, you can hike to First, quite a pleasant and picturesque trip. Stop to get a bite to eat (they serve HUGE hamburgers!) or some Swiss hot chocolate at the Bergrestaurant First and enjoy the scenery from the terrace before you continue your journey. You can continue your hike to Bachalpsee – two beautiful lakes with reflections of the surrounding mountains. Another option is the extremely long gondola ride or zipline down the mountain to Grindlewald where you can browse in the shops and view the church and well kept up graveyard.

Another sightseeing option from Rosenlaui is taking the bus down to Meirengen, then the train to Interlaken, and cruising around the lake or walking along the path by the lake.
